On 9/27-28, for 2 days, The Ministry of the Environment hosted the #4 Workshop on Decentralized Wastewater Treatment in Asia in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Based on the results of the past three workshops held in Tokyo and Bangkok Jakarta, this workshop aims to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations) related to sanitation in Asian countries. This is a forum for discussing decentralized wastewater treatment systems in order to solve problems related to the appropriate spread of decentralized wastewater systems that contribute to the conservation of the water environment.In order to solve the issues related to the proper spread of decentralized wastewater treatment systems, sharing the experiences of each country, gaining a common understanding of the issues and directions that should be addressed in the future, and contributing to the further promotion of decentralized wastewater treatment in Asia. The purpose is to build a network of concerned parties in each country and strengthen cooperation.
In this workshop, 21 participants from Indonesia, the host country, 4 JICA experts, 4 speakers from 1 other countries (4 of which was published in a paper) from other countries, and the Japan Sanitation Consortium including the Ministry of the Environment. (JSC), johkasou manufacturers, and 6 other people involved, a total of 35 people participated.
On the first day, the 27th, presentations were made from each country on on-site wastewater treatment policies, administrative initiatives and challenges, successful cases of decentralized wastewater treatment, and the current state of sludge management. A presentation was made on the current state of management. Afterwards, the declaration of this workshop was discussed and adopted.
At the workshop venue, many questions and comments were exchanged between the participants and presenters regarding the content of the presentations, and lively discussions were held on the current status and challenges of decentralized wastewater treatment in each country. In addition, a tour of johkasou installed at the local factory was held from the afternoon of the same day.
Through this workshop, the issues and current situation of decentralized wastewater treatment in Asian countries became clearer, and in the future, each country will promote decentralized wastewater treatment as a policy to improve sanitation and conserve the water environment in Asia. expect to.
